A metals yard quotes by weight, which means a serviceable transformer and a burned-out one bring nearly the same number. Most yards also expect the unit delivered, so you absorb the crane and the trucking. This is the fastest option and almost always the worst one financially — commonly a small fraction of what the same unit brings as recoverable equipment.

An equipment broker or listing marketplace

A broker lists your unit and waits. You may get a strong number eventually, but you carry the holding time, the commission, and the risk that nobody bids. Critically, a broker cannot commit to a removal date, because the removal depends on an end buyer who does not exist yet.

A remanufacturer

Rebuilders pay well for exactly the units that fit their program and have no interest in anything else. If your transformer is the right rating, voltage and condition you may do very well; if it is not, you will not get a call back. Most also buy subject to test results at their facility.

A direct buyer that covers logistics

This is what we are. We quote against our own book across the whole range rather than one narrow program, we pay before we load, we impose no testing contingency, and we absorb the crane, the riggers, the permits and the freight. The trade-off is honest: we are buying to resell, so we are not paying an end-user's retail price. What you get instead is certainty on price, certainty on date, and zero removal cost.

If a date is driving you

Demolition mobilizations, outage windows, lease expiries and certificate-of-occupancy deadlines do not move for equipment sales. When a date is the binding constraint, a direct buyer is the only structure that can guarantee both the number and the removal. A listing cannot.

If the unit has failed

A failed transformer has no retail market and is usually the most urgent thing on the site. It still holds copper or aluminum windings, core steel, a usable tank and often salvageable accessories such as tap changers, radiators and bushings. We buy failed units routinely, priced below serviceable equipment and well above scrap weight.

If you have a fleet

Mixed lots are where brokers struggle and scrap yards win by default, because sorting is work. We price the group as a group, including the units nobody else wants, and phase the pickups around your sequence.
