Oil-Filled Transformer Buyers

Liquid-filled units — mineral oil, silicone or ester — from 25 kVA pole-mounts up to 20 MVA power transformers. Oil is not a problem for us; containment, testing and disposal are part of what we do.

Selling Oil-Filled Transformers

Why the fluid matters to the offer

A unit's fluid tells us both its value and its handling cost. Non-PCB mineral oil is straightforward. Silicone-filled units are common in indoor vault installations and carry a premium because they are harder to source used. Anything manufactured before 1980 gets treated as PCB-suspect until an oil sample says otherwise, and we pull and pay for that sample.

Containment during removal

Our crews arrive with absorbent, containment berms and drum or vacuum-truck capacity sized to the unit's gallon count. Where a unit must be drained before transport we drain to DOT containers on site. Nothing gets set down on your soil or your storm drain, and you receive the disposal documentation for your file.

Documentation you get back

For any oil-filled purchase we can supply a bill of sale, a transfer of custody record, oil analysis results where we sampled, and where applicable an EPA-compliant disposal manifest. Plant environmental managers usually want this before the unit leaves the fence, so we prepare it as a matter of course.

Questions About These Units

Will you take a PCB-contaminated transformer?
Yes. PCB-labeled and PCB-suspect units are handled through permitted disposal channels with full manifesting. The offer is lower because the disposal cost is real, but the unit still leaves your site and you still get paid rather than paying a disposal invoice.
Do I have to drain the oil first?
No. Do not drain it. Draining creates a hazardous waste stream you then own, and a dry core is worth less to us than a filled unit. Leave it sealed and let our crew handle it.

Other Equipment We Buy

180–240 units in inventory rotation

Padmount Transformers

Pad-mounted distribution transformers are the single most liquid item we buy. A dead-front loop-feed unit in the 75 to 2500 kVA range with a legible nameplate and a sound tank can be priced from photographs the same day.

75 kVA – 5000 kVA
120–160 dry-type units handled per year

Dry-Type Transformers

Ventilated, sealed and cast-coil dry-type units from 15 kVA control transformers up to 5000 kVA unit substation sections. Copper-wound units carry a materially higher offer than aluminum.

15 kVA – 5000 kVA
40–60 substation-class units per year

Substation Transformers

Station-class and power transformers from 1 MVA to 100 MVA, including units with load tap changers, radiator banks and conservator tanks. These are heavy-haul projects and we run them end to end.

1 MVA – 100 MVA
Lots of 10 to 400 units purchased at a time

Pole-Mount Transformers

Single-phase and three-phase overhead distribution transformers, 5 kVA to 500 kVA. This is a volume item — we buy them by the pallet and by the trailer load out of utility and co-op surplus programs.

5 kVA – 500 kVA
25–40 complete lineups per year

Unit Substations

Complete primary-transformer-secondary lineups: incoming section, transformer, and low-voltage switchgear or switchboard bolted as one assembly. We buy them whole and we buy them by the section.

300 kVA – 5000 kVA
60–90 cast-coil units per year

Cast-Coil Transformers

Epoxy-encapsulated cast-coil units built for harsh, humid and high-load environments. Because they were expensive new and are durable used, they hold value better than any other dry-type.

300 kVA – 10 MVA
