Solar, Wind & Renewables: How We Work
Repowering releases young fleets
Wind sites built in the 2000s and early utility-scale solar are now being repowered. The transformers coming off those sites are young, documented, and often nearly identical across dozens of units. Uniform fleets are easy to resell, which is why we bid them aggressively.
Inverter-duty and collector units
Pad-mounted inverter-duty transformers, collector units and medium-voltage step-up transformers all have active secondary markets. Even units with harmonic-related aging carry value; do not assume a unit is scrap because it lived a hard electrical life.
Remote sites and long hauls
Renewable sites are usually remote, with long gravel access roads and limited crane availability. That is a freight and rigging problem, which is our problem, not yours. We have moved units off sites with no paved access and no site crane.
Equipment We Take From These Sites
Padmount Transformers
Pad-mounted distribution transformers are the single most liquid item we buy. A dead-front loop-feed unit in the 75 to 2500 kVA range with a legible nameplate and a sound tank can be priced from photographs the same day.
75 kVA – 5000 kVA300+ oil-filled units purchased annuallyOil-Filled Transformers
Liquid-filled units — mineral oil, silicone or ester — from 25 kVA pole-mounts up to 20 MVA power transformers. Oil is not a problem for us; containment, testing and disposal are part of what we do.
25 kVA – 20 MVA120–160 dry-type units handled per yearDry-Type Transformers
Ventilated, sealed and cast-coil dry-type units from 15 kVA control transformers up to 5000 kVA unit substation sections. Copper-wound units carry a materially higher offer than aluminum.
15 kVA – 5000 kVA40–60 substation-class units per yearSubstation Transformers
Station-class and power transformers from 1 MVA to 100 MVA, including units with load tap changers, radiator banks and conservator tanks. These are heavy-haul projects and we run them end to end.
1 MVA – 100 MVALots of 10 to 400 units purchased at a timePole-Mount Transformers
Single-phase and three-phase overhead distribution transformers, 5 kVA to 500 kVA. This is a volume item — we buy them by the pallet and by the trailer load out of utility and co-op surplus programs.
5 kVA – 500 kVA25–40 complete lineups per yearUnit Substations
Complete primary-transformer-secondary lineups: incoming section, transformer, and low-voltage switchgear or switchboard bolted as one assembly. We buy them whole and we buy them by the section.
300 kVA – 5000 kVAOther Sellers We Work With
Data Centers
Capacity refreshes and density upgrades displace nearly-new cast-coil and padmount units on a fixed construction schedule. We buy the displaced fleet and work inside your change windows.
Surplus lots of 20 to 500 unitsUtilities & Cooperatives
Investor-owned utilities, municipal systems and rural electric cooperatives running surplus disposition, storm change-out backlogs and voltage conversion programs.
Plant lots of 2 to 60 unitsManufacturing & Industrial Plants
Plant closures, line consolidations, service upgrades and idle spare inventory. Industrial plants hold more transformer value in storage than almost anyone realizes.
Site lots of 1 to 100+ unitsDemolition & Decommissioning
Demolition and decommissioning contractors who need the electrical equipment gone on schedule and would rather recover value than pay disposal. Intact is worth multiples of cut.
Campus lots of 2 to 40 unitsHospitals & Institutions
Hospitals, universities and government campuses replacing aging distribution during infrastructure renewal. Well-maintained equipment, strict access rules, immovable outage windows.
Send an equipment list or a few nameplate photographs. We will price the group and schedule around your sequence.
