What comes available in this state is shaped by what it runs: data center construction in the Charlotte and Research Triangle areas, pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing, furniture and textile plants in the Piedmont, and agricultural processing in the east. On the utility side, Duke Energy Carolinas, Duke Energy Progress, Dominion Energy North Carolina, ElectriCities all operate here, and surplus programs and system upgrades release both distribution and station-class equipment. Moving it out of Locust means I-85, I-40 and I-95 with the Ports of Wilmington and Morehead City for export. Notably, Piedmont textile and furniture plant closures continue to release substantial unit substation and dry-type equipment, and the Triangle biotech build-out displaces young cast-coil units.
