Selling a Transformer in Cushing

Our purchasing desk covers Cushing and the surrounding Payne County area for surplus and decommissioned electrical transformers. We are interested in single units and in fleets — a 500 kVA padmount behind a strip center, forty dry-types out of an office retrofit, a failed 25 MVA station transformer. All of it priced from the nameplate, all of it removed at our cost.

Why Oklahoma equipment moves well

Our interest in Cushing is not generic coverage — it is that Oklahoma wind repowering and oilfield electrical turnover give us consistent fleet purchases, and Catoosa lets us barge station-class units that will not go by road. The industrial base here spans oil and gas production and refining, aerospace maintenance at Tulsa and Oklahoma City, wind generation in the west, and tire and glass manufacturing, and equipment out of those facilities is usually well specified and worth recovering rather than scrapping. Utilities in the area include OG&E, PSO, Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, Grand River Dam Authority. Freight runs I-35, I-40 and I-44 with the Tulsa Port of Catoosa handling inland barge for oversize units.

A small community is not too small to sell

We regularly buy equipment out of communities the size of Cushing. Co-op service centers, grain and agricultural processing sites, small municipal utilities and rural industrial plants all accumulate transformers that nobody has ever offered a serious number on. Distance does not reduce our offer — we cover the freight and the rigging into Payne County the same way we would into a metro.

Lot buying and route consolidation

Where the economics genuinely improve for both of us is quantity. A pallet of pole-mount cans behind a service center, a row of retired padmounts along a fence line, a mixed pile of unknown units — aggregated, that is a trailer load worth real money, and we will send the equipment to load it.

Removal and Value

How a Cushing removal actually runs

The sequence is consistent. You send the nameplate and a few site photographs. We return a firm number, usually the same day. On acceptance we schedule against your window and send you insurance documentation and a bill of sale in advance. Our crew arrives in Cushing, cuts and caps conduit, breaks the unit loose from its pad or anchors, rigs and lifts it onto the trailer, and leaves the pad broom-clean with anchor bolts cut flush. Your funds go out before any of that happens — we do not load equipment we have not already paid for in full.

Resale value versus scrap weight

Sellers in Cushing are often quoted a scrap number by a metals yard and assume that is the market. It usually is not. A serviceable transformer priced as recoverable equipment commonly brings several times its scrap weight value, because the buyer is paying for a working asset with a long lead time on the new-build alternative. Even a failed unit carries core steel, windings, a tank, a tap changer and accessories worth more assembled than shredded. We will tell you honestly which category yours falls into.

Cushing Questions

When do I get paid?
Upfront, in full, before your equipment is loaded — wire, ACH or certified check. Not on delivery, not after inspection, not net thirty. We do not hold funds pending resale or testing at our yard.
Do I have to have the transformer tested before you will buy it?
No. We require no testing, no inspection report and no oil analysis to make or to honor an offer. We price from the nameplate and your photographs, and that number is not contingent on a test result or on what we find once the unit reaches us.
Is your offer contingent on anything?
Only on the equipment matching the nameplate and condition you described. There is no financing contingency, no inspection contingency and no testing contingency. We pay in full before loading, which is only possible because we are spending our own money and are not waiting on a downstream buyer in Oklahoma or anywhere else.
Do I need to disconnect the transformer first?
Yes. A licensed electrician must de-energize, lock out and disconnect the unit before our crew handles it. In most of Oklahoma we can coordinate that electrical work as part of the project if you would rather it be on one scope.
Should I drain the oil before you arrive?
No — please do not. Draining creates a hazardous waste stream that you then own, and a drained unit is worth less to us than a sealed one. Leave it as it is and let our crew handle containment.
