Transformer supply across New Mexico

Utility territory in and around Truth or Consequences is served by PNM, El Paso Electric, Xcel Energy, Continental Divide Electric Cooperative, and the equipment those systems retire tends to be standard voltage-class distribution gear with good documentation. Beyond the utilities, New Mexico generates transformer turnover through Permian Basin oil and gas in the southeast, national laboratories at Albuquerque and Los Alamos, copper mining, and rapidly growing solar generation. For freight we run I-25, I-40 and I-10 with Albuquerque and El Paso as consolidation points. One more thing worth knowing: Permian Basin electrical infrastructure turns over quickly with drilling cycles, and New Mexico solar interconnection work releases collector transformers.

A small community is not too small to sell

We regularly buy equipment out of communities the size of Truth or Consequences. Co-op service centers, grain and agricultural processing sites, small municipal utilities and rural industrial plants all accumulate transformers that nobody has ever offered a serious number on. Distance does not reduce our offer — we cover the freight and the rigging into Sierra County the same way we would into a metro.

Lot buying and route consolidation

Where the economics genuinely improve for both of us is quantity. A pallet of pole-mount cans behind a service center, a row of retired padmounts along a fence line, a mixed pile of unknown units — aggregated, that is a trailer load worth real money, and we will send the equipment to load it.

Access constraints we handle in Truth or Consequences

Very few transformers sit somewhere convenient. We routinely remove units from basement vaults, upper-floor electrical rooms, fenced substation yards with a single gate, roof-level mechanical decks and live plant floors under escort. Where a unit will not fit through the opening it came in through, we handle door-frame removal, wall coring or on-site disassembly. Where the street must be occupied, we pull the permit. None of that is billed back to you.

What sets your number in Truth or Consequences

Five things, in roughly this order: kVA rating, voltage class, winding material, fluid and condition. A 1000 kVA 12470–480V dead-front padmount with a legible nameplate and a sound tank is a resale asset and gets priced as one. The same rating with a cracked bushing and a weeping base weld is priced closer to materials. Copper windings beat aluminum materially. Non-PCB oil beats PCB-suspect oil, because the disposal cost is real. Documented test results — oil analysis, turns ratio, power factor — raise the number because they let a downstream buyer put the unit back in service instead of rebuilding it. None of that testing is required to sell to us, though — it is upside, never a precondition.
