Transformer supply across Colorado

Utility territory in and around Delta is served by Xcel Energy, Colorado Springs Utilities, Tri-State Generation, Black Hills Energy, and the equipment those systems retire tends to be standard voltage-class distribution gear with good documentation. Beyond the utilities, Colorado generates transformer turnover through oil and gas in the Denver-Julesburg basin, aerospace and federal laboratories along the Front Range, and brewing and food production in northern Colorado. For freight we run I-25 and I-70 intersect at Denver, our consolidation point for the whole Mountain West. One more thing worth knowing: Front Range coal plant retirements and wind interconnection work are moving station-class transformers off retired sites on a defined schedule.

We regularly buy equipment out of communities the size of Delta. None of that is billed back to you.

Resale value versus scrap weight

Sellers in Delta are often quoted a scrap number by a metals yard and assume that is the market. It usually is not. A serviceable transformer priced as recoverable equipment commonly brings several times its scrap weight value, because the buyer is paying for a working asset with a long lead time on the new-build alternative.
